Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele will team up with Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Executive Mayor Zanoxolo Wayile and other leaders to do community service in the Bay on Madiba's birthday, Sunday, 18 July 2010.
The event will form part of Mandela Month celebrations, a month long programme that was declared by Mayor Wayile recently as fitting for the only city named after Madiba. The 67 minute community service work by the Minister, Mayor Wayile and their entourage will be followed by a music celebration scheduled to take place at the Missionvale Campus of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University near Zwide. National acts that come from the city such as MXO, Camagwini, Zonke and Lulu Dikana as well as other locally based musicians will entertain the crowds at the free event which will be held between 13h00 and 20h00 on Sunday.
Buses will transport people from different areas of Nelson Mandela Bay to the venue.
The programme for the Minister and the Executive Mayor is provided below and media are invited to attend and cover the events. On Saturday, 17 July 2010, Mandela games will be played at the New Brighton Oval between 11h00 and 15h00 as part of Mandela month celebrations. Senior citizens, the disabled and women are expected to dominate the games.
