Cape Town: To further ensure and promote safer roads and fewer crashes Transport Minister Mr. Sibusiso Ndebele will deliver the keynote address at the opening of the PIARC International Seminar promoting road safety for vulnerable road users in Cape Town.
The Primary objectives of this International Seminar include the following:
* Identifying and understanding the issues of vulnerable road users in both developed and developing countries
* Sharing best local ,regional and international practices in successfully combating vulnerable road user deaths and injuries
* Highlighting solutions to reduce the perpetuation of high vulnerable road user death and injury rates.
The seminar will bring together the leaders and decision makers in the field of road and road Transport related needs of all PIARC member countries. The seminar program features technical sessions as well as occasions to meet important practitioners in less formal settings. General presentations and case studies will highlight how the issues of road safety for vulnerable road users are being addressed. There will be opportunities for group discussions and feedback.
The Minister will be joined by the MEC of Transport and Public Works in the Western Cape Mr Robin Carlisle, CEO of the South African National Road Agency (SANRAL) Mr Nazir Alli, representative from the World Health Organisation Dr Tami Toroyan and PIARC representatives. PIARC stands for Permanent International Association of Road Congress.
