Minister Motsoaledi to upscale HIV testing campaign at rural villages

Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi will lead a delegation at Mafefe village (Limpopo) on Sunday, 12 June 2011 to roll out HIV counseling and testing, as part of the HIV Counseling and Testing (HCT) Campaign launched by President Jacob Zuma in April last year.

Joining the Minister will be leaders from the National House of Traditional Leaders (NHTL), Provincial House of Traditional Leaders, Village Chiefs, Limpopo Premier Mr Cassel Mathale, Limpopo MEC for Health and Social Development Ms Dikeledi Magadzi and villagers from Mafefe and surrounding areas.

Approximately 2000 villages are expected to undergo the counseling and testing programme scheduled to run for three (3) days, from 12 to 14 June 2011. The campaign forms part of South Africa's response to the HIV and AIDS challenge and its focus is on prevention.

The event takes place as the Minister returns from attending the United Nations high-level meeting on HIV and AIDS in New York.
