Minister Molewa's Mandela Month and service delivery activities

All media is informed that the Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Mrs. Edna Molewa, has postponed some of her planned activities in relation to Nelson Mandela International Day as well as service delivery.

All media are informed that the Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Mrs. Edna Molewa, will as of Friday and the coming week, be involved in a number of activities in relation to Nelson Mandela International Day as well as service delivery.

In line with the Mandela month celebration, the Ministry and Department of Water Affairs endeavour to make water accessible to everyone. These endeavours are in line with the South African Constitution recognising access to water as an universal human right.

The Ministry and department are also driven and inspired by a clarion call made by former President Mandela during his inaugural address on Wednesday the 11th May 1994 when he said: “We must therefore act together as a united people, for a national reconciliation, for nation building, for the birth of a new word,- . Let there be peace for all, let there be work, bread, water and salt for all”.

Details of these activities are as follows:

1) Date: 20 July 2012: Boreholes’ activation and handover of Water Package Plant

Times and venues:

  • 8h00 – 9h00: Chief’s kraal, Maname Village (Nzhelele)
  • 9h00 – 11h00: Makhado Local Municipality offices
  • 11h00 – 13h00: Site visits
  • 13h00 – 14h00: Makhado Local Municipality offices

2) Date: 23 July 2012: Handover of pump stations to the Madibeng Local Municipality

Time: 9h00
Venue: DWA offices, Hartbeespoort Dam

3) Date: 25 July 2012: Visit to a wetland, ensure access to potable water by the handover of process controllers and pressure filters to the Local Municipality, as well as test water quality

Time: 10h00
Venue: Chief Albert Luthuli Local Municipality (Carolina, Gert Sibande District Municipality)
