Minister Molewa to visit Macassar Waste Water Treatment Works as part of National Water Week

The Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Ms Edna Molewa, will visit the City of Cape Town’s Macassar Waste Water Treatment Works on Sunday, 20 March 2011. The Minister will be accompanied by representatives from the United Nations Habitat.

The site visit is part of National Water Week, a campaign aimed at raising greater awareness around the water situation in the country. Waste Water Treatment plants around the country were brought into sharper focus when the Department of Water Affairs instituted the Green Drop Certification Programme which revealed the state of these plants.

The Macassar Works is one of the Green Drop Certified (90% compliant) plants during the 2009 assessment period.

During the visit media will be briefed on the latest Green Drop assessment process and new innovations in the field of Waste Water Treatment currently employed by the City of Cape Town.
