Minister Molewa and KwaZulu-Natal Premier Mkhize to address KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Climate Change Summit at Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban

Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Ms Edna Molewa, and the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Dr Zweli Mkhize, will address delegates at the KwaZulu-Natal Province Climate Change Summit at Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Conference Centre on Monday, 26 September 2011.

The Department of Environmental Affairs will host the Climate Change Summit in collaboration with the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government until the 27 September 2011. The summit forms part of South Africa's preparations for the Congress of the Parties (COP 17) to United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) taking place in Durban from 28 November to 9 December 2011.

The purpose of this summit is to educate, inform, engage and raise awareness about climate change to the general public. An overview on the climate change negotiation process will also be presented during the summit.

Amongst those who will speak , are the eThekwini City Manger, Dr Michael Sutcliffe, who is expected to present the Durban and KwaZulu-Natal State of Readiness to host COP 17.
