Minister Marthinus van Schalkwyk, South Africa will open the International Air Transport Association/Air Transport Action Group (IATA/ATAG) Summit in Geneva, Switzerland

South African Tourism Minister, Mr Marthinus van Schalkwyk, will open the International Air Transport Association/ Air Transport Action Group ATAG/IATA Summit in Geneva Switzerland on 21 March 2012.

The focus of the Minster’s address will include reference to:

(i) a possible political solution to the current conflict over the inclusion of aviation in the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS), and counter-threats of a trade war;
(ii) policy options to reduce the carbon footprint of aviation and international tourism;
(iii) potential tourism and trade supply chain disruptions associated with the global climate change response to aviation; and
(iv) progress in UN negotiations on controlling aviation emissions.
