Minister Marthinus van Schalkwyk launches cruise tourism report

Minister Marthinus van Schalkwyk of Tourism will launch the cruise tourism findings following a study that was commissioned by the national Department of Tourism, City of Cape Town and the KwaZulu–Natal Tourism Authority, to investigate the impact of cruise tourism in coastal provinces.

The study looked at the long term benefits, socio-economic and environmental impact of cruise tourism in all four coastal provinces.

Cruise travel is a growing sector in the global tourism industry. The global cruise industry has shown passenger carrier growth from an estimated 1.4 million to over 15.4 million in 2009. The projected increase in passenger carrier by 2025 is 28.1 million.
