In support of the president’s initiative for government to serve the public and to build strategic partnerships across the communities, stakeholders and sectors the Minister of Correctional Services, Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa–Nqakula will embark on Public Participation Programme by visiting Tembisa Self Help Association of the Disabled on 6 October 2010.
Tembisa Self Help Association of the Disabled was initiated in 1990 and runs advocacy and income generating projects namely wheelchair repair, garden and nursery, recycling, sub contract, tuck shop and secretarial services which promote the rights of persons with disabilities and their integration into the overall socio economic development strategy.
The Minister will roll up her sleeves and join the offenders, ex-offenders, parolees, probationers and other community members to plant trees, cultivate the garden, repair broken furniture, clean and general refurbishment of the premises. The theme of this community imbizo is offender labour in action.
