The Minister of Home Affairs, Malusi Gigaba, will on Friday, 6 February 2015 host a Roundtable on immigration with the theme: Intra-regional migration within SADC and implications for immigration policy.
The purpose of this interaction is to gather together leading experts and practitioners from legal; research and academic institutions; international organisations; non-governmental organisations; and government with a view to contributing ideas to the department’s process of reviewing the immigration regime.
Minister Gigaba is of the view that for the past ten years, the Department of Home Affairs has been amending legislation without assessing whether the immigration policy framework is still relevant. There was, therefore, a need for robust discussions on the relevance of the current immigration policy framework. Two Roundtable discussions have been held already.
Against this background, it is our pleasure to invite your organisation to send a reporter with an interest in immigration matters to attend the session with a view to report and garner information on immigration policy formulation.
Expected panelists include Dr Johan Burger (Institute for Security Studies), Dr Neva Makgetla (Department of Economic Development) and Dr Iraj Aberdian (Pan African Capital Holdings), among others.
The Roundtable will be held as follows:
Date: Friday, 6 February 2015
Venue: Wits School of Business (2 St Davids PI and St Andrews Road, Parktown)
Time: 09h00
