The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Honourable Maite Nkoana-Mashabane has accepted an invitation extended by the Minister of External Affairs and Co-operation of the Republic of Mozambique, Honourable Oldemiro Baloi, in his capacity as the Chair of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security, to attend a meeting of the SADC Political and Diplomatic Committee in Maputo, Mozambique on Thursday, 7 January 2010 at the Joaquim Chissano Conference Centre.
The purpose of the meeting is, amongst others, to prepare for the African Union (AU) Summit and Executive Council. The main item under deliberation will be the Chairship of the AU Summit as per the decision of the SADC Summit held in Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), in September 2009 to support Malawi's candidature.
The participating Ministers will also be briefed on mediation efforts by South Africa in Zimbabwe and Honourable Joaquim Chissano on Madagascar.
