The Minister of Women, Children and People with Disabilities, Ms Lulu Xingwana, will deliver a keynote address at the Press Conference which will be hosted by Business and Professional Women South Africa (BPWSA) in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry. The objective of the press conference is to introduce the United Nations (UN) Women’s Empowerment Principles.
The UN Women’s Empowerment Principles is a partnership initiative of UN Women and UN Global Compact. South Africa’s CEOs join their Global counterparts who have already signed CEO Statement of Support for UN Women’s Empowerment Principles and affirm their support of these practices within their companies.
Minister Xingwana is expected elaborate on how the Women Empowerment and Gender Equality Bill, which has been approved by Cabinet for public consultation, will help enforce gender parity both in the private and public sectors.
The Press Conference is scheduled to take place as follows:
Date: Monday, 10 September 2012
Time: 11h00 - 14h00
Venue: Bytes Business Park Block C, 241 Third Road, Halfway Gardens, Midrand
As part of acknowledging their commitment to the global UN Women’s Empowerment Principles, 64 South African companies who signed the CEO Statement of Support together with the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Rob Davies, in 2011, will receive an acknowledgment award for their commitment to making equality a corporate priority. More companies are expected to sign this year.
We reiterate the call made by the Department of Trade and Industry to all corporate CEOs to join forces in supporting Business and Professional Women and the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles to fast-track the economic empowerment of women.
