Minister listening to persons with hearing disabilities

Marking the end of International Deaf Awareness Week, Minister of Women, Children and Persons with Disabilities, Noluthando Mayende-Sibiya, will spend the day in Worcester, home of the National Institute for the Deaf (NID) tomorrow Tuesday, 29 September.

During the visit to this ground-breaking institute, Minister Mayende-Sibiya will visit the only adult deaf care centre in South Africa, the centre for elderly persons with hearing disabilities (also the first and only centre of its kind in South Africa) and the NID College that specialises in tertiary training for persons with hearing disabilities (the only college of its kind in South Africa). She will also engage with the learners, residents and staff of the NID and address stakeholders during a meeting.

Given the fact that both the NID and the Institute for the Blind are in Worcester, Minister Mayende-Sibiya will also address a sitting of the Breede Valley Municipal Council. Municipality that covers Worcester, De Doorns, Rawsonville and Touws River, on local government’s responsibility towards ensuring accessible towns and cities for persons with disabilities.
