Minister Joemat-Pettersson to visit Dysselsdorp Community Food Project

The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) Ms Tina Joemat-Pettersson will be visiting the Dysselsdorp Clinic Food Gardening project in the Western Cape on Saturday, 2 October 2010 and is expected to make an announcement regarding the project.

The Dysselsdorp Clinic Food Garden has been initiated by Clinic staff members and has been producing vegetables on a limited scale for the benefit of patients and pensioners.

Dysselsdorp has an estimated 22 000 residents and is situated 10 kilometres outside Oudtshoorn in the heart of the Klein Karoo. It is characterised by poverty, high unemployment, lack of water and several other socio-economic challenges.

Dysselsdorp has been selected by the provincial government to be the pilot site for a Comprehensive Rural Development Programme (CRDP) in the Western Cape.
