Minister Gugile Nkwinti launches mobile land claims lodgement offices, 25 Apr

The Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform Mr Gugile Nkwinti will launch the mobile lodgement offices that will be dispatched to remote areas of South Africa for the processing of land claims, at the Charles Mopeli stadium in Qwaqwa, Phuthaditjhaba, on Saturday 25 April 2015.

To ensure that a maximum number of potential claimant communities are reached, the Commission on Restitution of Land Rights has acquired the mobile lodgement offices to travel around the country to receive claims, in addition to the 14 Lodgement offices situated in all 9 Provinces. The mobile offices are specially equipped vehicles fitted with technology to process applications for land clams on site. A total of four busses and two all-terrain 4x4 trucks will be deployed to the identified communities over the next four year period ending on 30 June 2019. This initiative is part of efforts to improve access for those individuals and communities wishing to lodge land claims in far flung parts of our country.

Members of the community from Qwaqwa and the surrounding areas will have an opportunity to lodge their land claims as part of the day’s proceedings.  One mobile lodgement office will remain in the Qwaqwa area for another four weeks to receive land claims from qualifying individuals and communities, before proceeding to other rural areas in the Free State Province.  The other mobile lodgement offices will also be simultaneously deployed to receive claims in other provinces, starting with the Eastern Cape and the Gauteng Provinces.

Minister Nkwinti will be joined by the Premier for the Free State Province Mr E.S. Magashule and other dignitaries from the Province.
