Members of the media are invited to cover the official launch of Masizakhe Dairy by the Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, Mr Gugile Nkwinti, on Saturday the 29th September 2012 at Snyklip Farm in Clarkson (Tsitsikama). The dairy results from a Tripartite Agreement between the Snyklip Community Trust (SCT), Michda Trust, ACS Consulting and the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform.
Added to that is that the SCT has entered into a Joint Venture (share milk agreement) with Michda Trust and ACS Consulting Trust. SCT trades as Masizakhe Dairy Trust.
In terms of the agreement signed on the 7 May 2009, the sharemilker will provide 1 000 milking cows and heifers at various stages of pregnancy, tractors and implements and management skills to the dairy. The agreement states that these will remain the assets of the sharemilker. The gross income and capital expenditure will be shared according to the following shareholding:
a) Snyklip Community Trust = 51%
b) Michda Trust (Sharemilker) = 45%
c) ACS Consulting = 4%
The project’s main intention is to create job opportunities, alleviate poverty and community training. In 2011 the project was producing 18 000 litres of milk a day and which is being marketed to the Lancewood Dairy in George. An amount of R 11 million in terms of the Recapitalisation and Development Programme was approved for the completion of the dairy palour, dam repair and a purchase of a new centre pivot. Initially, the Eastern Cape Commission on Restitution of Land Rights released funding for the acquisition of various farms to the Tsitsikama Development Trust.
The land was transferred to the TDT on 25 March 1994, and in turn, the TDT leased the farms to the Snyklip Community Trust. Amongst the farms that were bought for the TDT are Portion 9 of Farm No 788, Portion 10 of Farm 788 and Portion 13 of Farm 788 collectively measuring 1 000.1649 hectares in extent.
