Minister Gugile Nkwinti hands over seven farms in Lady Grey

The Minister for Rural Development and Land Reform Mr Gugile Nkwinti cordially invites members of the media to the official handing over of seven farms to seventy (70) beneficiaries of land reform in Lady Grey on Friday, the 20 April 2012.

The government has invested around R30 million on these seven farms. Lady Grey is in the Joe Gqabi District Municipality in the Eastern Cape. The amount includes the purchase price, support to farmers encountering challenges through the Comprehensive Agricultural Support Programme (CASP) and the Recapitalisation and Development Programme (RADP). The farms vary from 369 to 1222 hectares in extent with a carrying capacity of over 200 cattle and 600 sheep.

Some of the beneficiaries are former farm workers. One of the farms will be used as a training centre for breeding cattle and sheep. Minister Nkwinti, dignitaries and interested parties will take a tour on the farm in the morning of the 20th.

Imbumba Beef Production (PTY), a co-operative based in Lady Grey, provides strategic partnership to the farms.
