The Minister for Rural Development and Land Reform, Mr Gugile Nkwinti and the Regional Land Claims Commissioner for the Western Cape cordially invite you to attend the Victoria Park settlement celebration which will be marked by the distribution of vouchers to the value of R1,7 million to 22 households.
Worcester claimants and their ancestors occupied the properties in the old and new location since the 1800s. The properties consisted of residential dwellings as well as formal and informal business premises. During the 1960’s most of the rights the claimants enjoyed were infringed upon and eroded through various proclamations, acts and by-laws.
The handover event is informed by the fact that whilst claimants were provided with alternative smaller council dwellings, the claimants opted for financial compensation as a reward for the rights in land lost. In attendance will be several dignitaries, the Breede Valley Municipal Mayor, the Chief Land Claims Commissioner and Members of the Provincial Legislature.
The event will take place as follows:
Date: 2 December 2010
Time: 14h00 to 16h00
Venue: Boland College, Rainier Street - Worcester
