Minister Gugile Nkwinti to address the Rural Transformation conference

Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform Mr Gugile Nkwinti cordially invites members of the media to a two day Rural Development’s Consultative Conference which will be held at St Georges Hotel on the 5 - 6 October 2012. Journalists are to become part of the plenary in the morning but commissions will be closed to the media.

The purpose of this two day conference is to discuss five thematic areas for the advancement of Rural Development which are: Communal Tenure Reform, Financing models, Communal areas reform, Spatial Integrated Planning and Targeting Strategies.

The department will also use this event to launch its 2013 Centenary campaign which will see the department commemorating the notorious Natives Land Act of 1913.June 2013 marks the centenary of the 1913 Native Land Act, a piece of legislation which many historians equate with the birth of apartheid.

The event will also be attended by various Ministers, MECs, stakeholder groups which include: National and Provincial House of Traditional Leaders, Landless People’s Organisations, Business Unity South Africa (BUSA), SASA, Agri Business, Various Universities (University of Venda, PLAAS and Walter Sisulu University etc). Around 1000 delegates are expected at the Conference.
