Minister Gugile Nkwinti to address an International Policy Dialogue on Sustainable Rural Development in Cape Town

The Minister for Rural Development and Land Reform Gugile Nkwinti cordially invites members of the media to the Policy Dialogue on Sustainable Rural Development to be held at Cape Sun, Cape Town on 18 to 19 February 2011.

This dialogue will begin to unpack common problems such as job creation and solutions such as community driven development facing rural development policymakers and practitioners in relation to the creation of sustainable rural livelihoods and agency amongst the rural poor.

The dialogue objectives are therefore four-fold:

  • To share experiences and discuss options and constraints to sustainable rural livelihoods in developing and emerging countries such as South Africa, Brazil, China and India
  • To provide recommendations for improved policies and practices in supporting South Africa’s comprehensive rural development programme
  • To enhance cooperation amongst policy makers, academics and development practitioners working in the field of rural development and land reform
  • To continue south-south learning initiatives initiated in New Delhi, India in April 2010 emerging from the International Conference on The Dynamics of Rural Transformation in Emerging Economies.
