Minister Grant to visit school on first day of literacy and numeracy testing

On Wednesday, the first of the Annual Provincial Literacy and Numeracy testing will take place in schools across the Western Cape.

Around 240 000 learners in Grade’s three, six and nine will take part in the testing that is aimed at assessing levels of literacy and numeracy proficiency within the system.

The Western Cape leads the rest of the country in systemic testing in literacy and numeracy and uses the tests as a means to identify problem areas within the system and where to undertake targeted remedial action at underperforming schools.

Minister Grant will be visiting Zonnebloem Girls Primary School tomorrow and will be engaging with learners once they have written the tests.

Where: Zonnebloem Girls Primary School, Cambridge Street, Walmer Estate
Date: Wednesday, 12 October 2011
Time: 12h00

(The Minister will be briefing media on the testing and will be inviting media to join him in the classroom once the tests have been completed. We kindly ask the media to not disrupt the learners during the testing process.)
