Minister Grant to highlight the importance of enrolling your child early for school

Tomorrow, Minister Donald Grant will be visiting Tshatshu Game Shop, a spaza shop in Asanda Village, Nomzamo, to highlight the importance of enrolling one’s child early for the 2013 school year.

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has recently launched a major campaign to encourage parents to register their children for school by 7 September 2012 for the 2013 school year. The first round of enrolment ends on 30 June 2012.

The campaign is focusing mainly on rapidly growing communities where we are most likely to see large numbers of learners enrolling in our schools for the first time.

The department is promoting its message to parents to enrol early through various media and through, for the first time, via spaza shops in selected townships.

The WCED has acquired space on small bags of rice with a message that reads: “Enrol your child for school today. Let’s make education better together!”

The spaza shop owners are attracting electricity customers by handing out small bags of rice with every sale of electricity.

The shop owners are using the bags to promote sales of electricity via their shops.

Tomorrow, Minister Grant will be visiting one of the Spaza shops that are handing out the bags of rice. He will be chatting to the owner of the shop, some of its customers, as well as, handing over a box of the small bags of rice.
