Tomorrow, Western Cape Education Minister Donald Grant will be visiting Worcester for the launch of the new Information Communication Technology (ICT) Resource Centre for mobile education.
The programme focuses on using ICT as a means for teaching and learning and provides ICT skills training to teachers and unemployed youth.
Vodacom has partnered with the national Department of Basic Education to implement similar centres in each of the nine provinces, empowering teachers with a variety of teaching resources, rich in multimedia content.
Each ICT Resource Centre will offer:
- a computer room with 50 computer terminals
- other educational aids, models and content
- internet connectivity
- training facilities.
Each Centre will have 200 schools linked to it for IT-based general teacher development. A further 20 schools will be selected for the Maths and Science programme. The 20 Maths and Science schools will each be given a laptop with a zero-rated sim card to enable free Internet access; a multimedia projector and an interactive board.
The Western Cape ICT Resource Centre is the 4th of 9 centres to be launched nationally.
