Minister Grant and Minister Plato to observe search and seizure operation at Khayelitsha High School

Tomorrow morning, Minister Donald Grant and Minister Dan Plato will be observing a search and seizure operation in Khayelitsha.

In the last few months there has been an increase in gang violence amongst the youth in Khayelitsha. The majority of the incidents happen outside the school premises, but there are concerns that weapons are being carried into schools for use after school hours. 

South African Police Service have therefore conducted a number of search and seizures at schools as a security measure, as well as, a means to deter learners from bringing weapons into schools. 

Tomorrow the two Minister’s will be observing such a search. 

We ask the media to keep the operation confidential so as to not alert the school community.
