The Minister of Energy, Ms Dipuo Peters, launches the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa) Visitors Centre

The Minister of Energy, Ms Dipuo Peters, will on Thursday, 3 February 2011, launch a state of the art and interactive visitor’s centre at Gate 1, Pelindaba outside Pretoria at 11h00.

The international benchmarking, planning and construction of the centre was a four-year process that has culminated in a centre that is very modern, highly interactive and which conveys the precision, wonder and beauty of science, while also fulfilling Necsa’s mandate to actively enhance public understanding of the nuclear sector, by including a comprehensive focus on nuclear energy and nuclear technology.

The visitor’s centre also focuses strongly on the demystification of nuclear science and technology, in line with the Minister of Energy’s directive that the nuclear industry should be transparent about its activities and actively strive to educate the general public in this regard.

The Minister will be accompanied by the Chairperson of the Necsa board, Dr Manne Dipico, CEO of Necsa, Dr Rob Adam, as well as other senior government officials.
