Minister Edna Molewa to host last stakeholder engagement summit ahead of UNFCCC COP17

Ms Edna Molewa, the Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs will host a last stakeholder engagement Summit, following broader consultations and engagements, ahead of the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The Department of Environmental Affairs has already held, led and coordinated a series of engagements across the country as part of the build up towards the UNFCCC COP17 to be held in Durban from 28 November to 9 December 2011.

This Summit is aimed at updating stakeholders on the country’s state of readiness to participate in the COP17 as well as share with stakeholders progress on key areas of our responsibility at COP17.

The programme items include presentations on stakeholder engagements and mobilisation, the National Climate Change White Paper, SA negotiating position, the Second National Communication on Climate Change and an update on the climate change response expo.

The Stakeholder Summit is open to all media.
