Home Affairs Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma today Sunday, 27 February 2011, reiterated the department’s commitment to providing IDs to South Africans to ensure they can register to vote. This will be in support of the Independent Electoral Commission’s final voter registration weekend on 5 to 6 March 2011.
In this regard Minister Dlamini Zuma said, “The department has a constitutional mandate to provide South Africans with IDs to enable them to, amongst others, exercise their democratic right to vote.”
“We urge those without IDs to take advantage of extended hours which our officials will be working over the voter registration weekend. Equally we urge those who have previously applied for their IDs but have not collected them to do so over the same weekend,” concluded Minister Dlamini Zuma.
