Minister Dlamini Zuma to present the department's budget vote

Cape Town – Home Affairs Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will on Tuesday 12 April 2011 present the Department’s Budget Vote to members of the National
Assembly in Cape Town under the theme, “Working together to ensure South Africans value their identity and citizenship.”


The budget address will be broadcast live on SAFm, Ukhozi FM, Lesedi FM, Phalaphala FM and Radio Sonder Grense in addition to 65 Community radio stations.
 
Minister Dlamini Zuma’s address to the National Assembly comes within the context of the department’s constitutional requirement to report to Parliament on its activities for the past year whilst projecting its activities for the future.  
 
In this regard the Minister’s Budget speech will focus mainly on service delivery related to the provision of enabling documents such as IDs, passports, birth and death certificates as well as the effective delivery of immigration services in line with our own constitution, SADC protocols and international obligations.
 
The department’s budget vote will be preceded by the re-opening of the Barrack Street Home Affairs office following a complete refurbishment and remodelling in line with the department’s new corporate model.
 
Situated in close proximity to Parliament, this Regional Office services a wide range of clients, including members of Parliament.  The office will provide a total Home Affairs experience for clients – including the printing and issuing of birth and other civic documents, applications for permits while all data will be captured online through live capture technology.  Online fingerprint verification will significantly improve the turnaround time in the issuance of various enabling documents.
 
The refurbished office will also feature the queue-management system that will assist the department monitor how many people are served on a daily basis while keeping accurate statistics of how long these clients had to wait to be served. This will go a long way towards assisting us to improve our services since the data we will be compiling will be accurate and measurable.

The Queue Management System will improve the client experience by reducing waiting times and ensuring that staff performance is closely monitored.  The system has been piloted in 13 other offices around the country.  
 
The office will become operational to members of the public from Monday 18 April
2011 from Monday to Friday from 07h30 to 16h30 and on Saturdays from 08h30 to 12h30.
