Durban: Minister of Home Affairs Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will on Thursday, 26 November 2009, join the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal Dr Zweli Mkhize, MEC of Social Development Dr Meshack Radebe and several other MECs in handing over a house and an ID to the family of the late S'khumbuzo Mhlongo in Molweni, near Hillcrest, KwaZulu-Natal.
S'khumbuzo Mhlongo committed suicide following maltreatment by two Home Affairs officials at the Pinetown Regional Offices earlier this year. The two officials were suspended and subsequently dismissed following disciplinary proceedings instituted against them by the Department of Home Affairs.
In addition to the house, an ID will be handed over S'khumbuzo Mhlongo's sister, Zanele Mhlongo. The handing over of the house to S'khumbuzo Mhlongo's family is part of a broader programme of the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government which will culminate in the launch of the 16 Days of Activism and sod turning of Mkhuphula One Stop Development Centre.
These activities also include the handing over of a house to the Ngcobo family in Hammarsdale, visits to child headed families in Umsinga, as well as another visit to a One Stop Development Centre in Umsinga.
