Minister Dlamini Zuma to participate in sod turning ceremony in KwaZulu-Natal

Home Affairs Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, will on Wednesday 11 May 2011 participate in a sod turning ceremony for the new ESKOM substation in eBomvini, Umzimkulu, KwaZulu-Natal.

The building of the substation is expected to create a number of jobs whilst, in the long term, improve the quality of lives for the people in the area, through the improvement of electricity supply to the communities.

Minister Dlamini Zuma will be joined by Mayor Luzulane of the Ingwe Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal. Other participants in the event will include representatives for the Department of Energy, Eskom, counsellors in the area as well as members of the community.

On Tuesday 10 May 2011, as part of ensuring service delivery to all South Africans, Minister Dlamini Zuma handed out identity documents (IDs) to members of the Donnybrooke community in the Ingwe Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal.

This comes within the context of the department’s commitment towards fulfilling its constitutional mandate to ensure all South Africans have IDs which would enable them to register for social services provided by government. IDs are also critical to ensure that South Africans will be able to exercise their democratic right to vote in Local Government Elections to be held on Wednesday 18 May 2011.

The deployment of the department’s mobile offices to render services helped strengthen Minister Dlamini Zuma’s message that all babies must be registered within 30 days of birth, while encouraging 16 year olds to apply for IDs.

While in KwaZulu-Natal, Minister Dlamini Zuma also yesterday Monday 9 May 2011 engaged with members of the Ngudwini community in the Ingwe Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal.

Accompanied by the Mayor Mrs Luzulane, Minister Dlamini Zuma also participated in the handing over of community halls to the communities of Ngudwini and Donnybrooke while also handing out food parcels to particularly destitute members of the community.
