Minister Dlamini Zuma encourages South Africans to acquire IDs

Home Affairs Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will on Thursday 5 May 2011 officially open the Hartebeeskraal Thusong Centre in Atlantis, Western Cape which will offer a wide range of services to all members of the community.

Minister Dlamini Zuma will also hand over IDs and birth certificates to members of the community in Witsand and Atlantis, following which she will interact with members of the Atlantis community.

This comes amidst the Minister’s campaign to mobilise South Africans to acquire Identity Document (ID) documents which will enable them to, amongst others, exercise their democratic right to vote in local government elections to be held on 18 May 2011.

Earlier today Wednesday 4 May 2011, Minister Dlamini Zuma interacted with members of the community in Khayelitsha during which she handed out IDs and birth certificates. Minister Dlamini Zuma also held discussions with members of the stakeholder forum in the Western Cape.

Minister Dlamini Zuma’s visit to Khayelitsha and Atlantis comes within the context of the department’s commitment to rendering quality services to all the country’s citizens in pursuance of its constitutional mandate.

With a view to achieving this, the department is committed to participatory governance through regular interactions with members of the citizenry as well as the mobilisation of stakeholder forums who assist with service delivery while exercising an oversight role over the department.
