Minister Dlamini Zuma to attend Socialist International Climate Change Commission meeting, Mexico City, Mexico

Home Affairs Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will today Wednesday, 24 November depart for Mexico City, Mexico where she will address a meeting of the Socialist International Commission for a Sustainable World Society on climate change scheduled from Friday, 26 November 2010 to Saturday 27 November 2010.

The meeting, which comes ahead of the 17th session of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP17) in Cancun, Mexico, is expected to deliberate on a social democratic perspective on climate change with a view to building a better future for a sustainable world society.

In this regard, Minister Dlamini Zuma on 15 November, in Paris addressed the Council of the Socialist International on the topic of “Facing the Consequences of Climate Change: The urgent need for a meaningful agreement at the 16th session of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP16).”

Minister Dlamini Zuma’s participation in Socialist International meetings comes within the context of South Africa’s commitment to strengthen relations with other like-minded political formations around the globe with a view to achieving a just and sustainable system of global political and economic governance.

Minister Dlamini Zuma is expected to return to South Africa on Monday, 29 November 2010.
