Minister Dlamini to visit KwaZulu-Natal province - uMsinga Municipality

As part of the Social Development Month the Minister of Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini, will visit uMsinga Municipality in the Mzinyathi District in the KwaZulu-Natal province on Friday, 14 October 2011, to evaluate progress in the implementation of poverty alleviation programmes. Minister Dlamini will be accompanied by the provincial MEC for Social Development, Dr Meshack Radebe and senior government officials at national, provincial and local levels. 

The visit is part of the War on Poverty campaign and the Comprehensive Rural Development Plan, both of which aim to fast track the delivery of social and municipal services to improve the lives of the poor in rural and urban areas. Social Development is one of the key government departments in the campaign, which targets the poorest areas (wards) with the aid of data obtained from Statistics South Africa. The campaign promotes coordination among national, provincial and local spheres of government in poverty alleviation measures. 

Minister Dlamini will visit identified households, poverty alleviation projects including Early Childhood Development and then interact with members of the communities at a community meeting to further highlight and enhance the work of government in the fight against poverty.

The main event will be preceded by community dialogues with the view to find long lasting solutions to socio-economic challenges prevailing in the area.
