Minister Dlamini takes a firm stand against social ills facing South Africa

"POVERTY SHAME", "BABY BASHERS" screamed headlines this week. This is evidence that South Africa continues to have a gap in its welfare services especially in the field of social working. To address this and many other challenges within the social work profession, Minister of Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini, will establish the Veteran Social Workers Forum at the Emperors Palace, Johannesburg.

As part of the broader strategy to address the growing demand for social services and the shortage of social work professionals in South Africa, Minister Dlamini established a task team which had a mandateto look at possibilities that will enhance the relationship between the Department of Social Development and retired social workers.

The Veteran Social Workers Forum will be involved in bridging the gap within the social sector and further improve the image as well as the integrity of the social working profession. Young and upcoming social workers will also benefit from the skills, knowledge and expertise of the Veterans Forum.

"Retired social workers have the necessary skills, experience and knowledge to make valuable contribution towards the improvement of both our communities and the social work profession," said Minister Bathabile Dlamini.
