Minister Dlamini to present Department of Social Development’s Budget

Social Development Minister Ms Bathabile Dlamini will tomorrow, 14 April 2011 present the department’s Budget Vote to members of the National Assembly in Cape Town at 14h00.

The Budget speech will focus on key priorities in the areas of comprehensive social security, early childhood development, older persons, substance abuse, community development and welfare services.

Minister Dlamini will address a press conference to outline key priorities of the department in the current financial year at a briefing to be held as follows:

On Friday, 15 April 2011 the Minister will conduct a door-door campaign in Langa-Western Cape province. The campaign will focus on older persons. This is part of the Minister’s campaign to popularise the Older Persons Act (Act No 13 of 2006) which came into operation last year and the Charter on the Rights of Older Persons that was launched recently.

The door-door campaign will culminate into an Integrated Community Registration and Outreach Programme (ICROP) where government departments including the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), National Development Agency (NDA) will render services to the public. The details are as follows:
