The Minister of Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini, will meet with Northern Cape NPOs to build and strengthen their working relations with the department.
Although the registration of NPOs is voluntary, Minister Dlamini will engage through dialogues NPOs and further encourage them to register in line with the NPO Act 71 of 1997. This will assist in establishing an administrative and regulatory framework within which NPOs can conduct their affairs through a registration facility.
By the end of March this year, the total number of registered NPOs was 85 248 and there has been a steady growth in various provinces. Northern Cape has low number of NPOs which is 2% of the total as compared to other provinces.
It is in this context that the Minister identified a need to host dialogues with the NPO sector across all provinces including the Northern Cape. These dialogues will culminate into the national NPO Summit which will be hosted in August this year. The Minister will be accompanied by the MEC for Social Development in the Northern Cape Mr. Alvin Botes.
