Minister Dlamini in London to speak about women’s economic status

Minister of Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini, will on Sunday, 4 September 2011 depart for London to participate in an event aimed at celebrating South African women.

The event will be held on Tuesday, 6 September 2011, at the South African House in London, in partnership with the South African High Commission and the South African Women in Dialogue (SAWID) organisation in London.

It seeks to celebrate the impact of women in shaping South Africa’s current economic climate. The event will highlight the progress made by South Africa in terms of equality and in advancing women’s rights, while discussing challenges that currently face women in South Africa and abroad.

Minister Dlamini will address the event focusing on the following:

  • The economic status of women globally
  • The economic Status of women in South Africa
  • Measures and mechanisms put in place for Women’s Economic Empowerment by civil society, government and the private sector

The event will be structured in an interactive manner in the form of a panel discussion followed by a question and answer session with the audience. The panel discussion will be conducted under the theme: “Working together to enhance Women’s opportunities towards economic empowerment”.
