Minister Dlamini to launch Social Work Veterans Forum

As part of the broader strategy to recruit and retain social workers to address the growing demand for social and developmental services, the Minister for Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini will on Monday 22 October 2012 launch the Social Work Veterans forum.

The Social development sector continues to experience challenges, which include gaps in service delivery and skills shortages especially within the social work profession. As a result, Department of Social Development resolved to call on retired social workers to assist the department and its partners in their effort to respond to the challenges currently confronting the profession.

The Department of Social Development’s main mandate is to ensure that the most vulnerable communities and individuals in our country have access to services for the realisation of their constitutional rights and social integration. In order to accomplish this, the department requires sufficient and fully capacitated human resources in the form of social workers.

The event will take place as follows:
Date: Monday, 22 October 2012
Time: 10h00
Venue: Southern Sun (OR Tambo International Airport)
