Minister Dlamini to inaugurate the new board of the National Development Agency (NDA)

The Minister of Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini will today, 14 February 2011 deliver a keynote address at the official inauguration of the new board of the National Development Agency (NDA).

The details are as follows:

Date: 14 February 2011
Time: 18h30 to 20h30
Venue: Thaba ya Batswana-Eco Lodge Spa, 46 Impala Road Kliprivier Nature Reserve- Johannesburg (next to Rand Water Head Office)

The agency’s primary mandate is to contribute towards the eradication of poverty and its causes, through granting funds to civil society and community based organisations. Minister Dlamini stressed that government is eagerly waiting to see how the new board will make the agency move forward and enhance its functioning.

“I am confident that the new board will give proper guidance to agency to ensure that it meets our government and our people’s expectations, particularly in fulfilling its core mandate of poverty eradication and empowering civil society organisations. I therefore encourage the new board to lead a transition from a supervisory board to one that provides oversight and guidance.

The decisions that will be taken at that level must be inspired by government’s desire to create more jobs and fight poverty as outlined in the State of the Nation Address,” said Minister Dlamini. The board is a broad based multi-stakeholder entity composed of eminent South Africans in the field of community development, business, civil society and faith-based organisations. The board will serve for a period of three years.

Members of the media are invited to attend and cover the event.
