Minister Dlamini to conduct community outreach programme in Melmoth

As part of the Department’s effort to eradicate child poverty and to promote education as a primary vehicle to tackle intergenerational poverty, the Minister of Social Development Ms Bathabile Dlamini will embark on a community outreach programme in Melmoth, KwaZulu-Natal province. The Minister will be accompanied by the MEC for Education, Mr Senzo Mchunu and senior government leaders in the province. The details are as follows:

“This outreach programme is part of our government’s commitment to remove all barriers that hinder children from accessing education which is an important developmental tool, particularly for children in poor communities, says Minister Dlamini.

During the visit, Minister Dlamini will hand over school uniforms to learners from poor households and also provide food parcels to child-headed households. In addition, the minister will assist eligible individuals and households to register for the Social Relief of Distress. The minister will, amongst others, take the opportunity to highlight government’s programmes on poverty eradication, education and rural development.
