The Minister for Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini, will on Wednesday, 10 October, open the annual Golden Games at the Olympia Stadium, Rustenburg. The Golden Games promote active ageing and socialisation amongst older persons and are held in line with the International Madrid Plan of Action on Ageing which encourages new approaches to ageing policies and programmes in order to promote a society for all ages.
The Minister will also address the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the South African Older Persons (SAOPF), which will take a day before the Golden Games at Sun City Hotel, Rustenburg, on October 9. The SAOPF is a formation of older persons that seeks to lobby all relevant stakeholders, including government, on issues of concern to older persons.
The overall aim of these initiatives is to improve the quality of life of older persons.
