Minister Dipuo Peters launches 'Bi-Articulated Buses' as part of Transport Month, 15 Oct

Transport Minister, Honourable Dipuo Peters, will officially launch 12 new ‘Bi-Articulated Buses as part of the celebration of Transport Month, in Mpumalanga Province.

Buscor (PTY) LTD, is a company that has evolved over the last 50 years to its current state and operates over 482 buses. The majority are train buses, transporting approximately 160 000 passengers per day and covering over 32 million kilometers per annum. The company continues to be a pioneer in the development of passenger transport technologies and has become the largest train bus operator in the continent of Africa. Buscor is also the first commuter company to be, RTMS (Road Transport Management System), accredited in South Africa.

In an effort to reduce gas emission on the roads, the company ran a pilot project with 10 bi-articulated buses, without any accidents or incidents over the past four years.

As part of the launch, the Minister will undertake a bus trip in one of the bi-articulated buses from Daantjie Trust, an informal settlement (about 40 km's outside Nelspruit), to a bus terminal in Nelspruit. The trip will also give the Minister an opportunity to interact with the passengers, journalists and get a first-hand experience, on how passengers are transported as well as the challenges they encounter on a daily basis. Thereafter the Minister will be taken back to the bus depot, and through all the safety check points that the buses undergo, before they commute passengers.
