Minister of Defence and Military Veterans to officiate at the launch of iLab classroom initiative at Ditsepu Secondary School in Polokwane

The Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Lindiwe Sisulu, will be handing over an iLab classroom donated by SAAB South Africa to Ditsepu Secondary School in Limpopo province on Thursday, 23 July 2009 at 08h40 for 09h00.

The Ministry of Defence visited the school during the 2008 Imbizo week. During this visit certain needs were identified and the Department of Defence undertook to assist the school in collaboration with other role players. The identified needs were a computer centre, office space, furniture and functioning ablution facilities.

SAAB South Africa donated about R2 million, for iLab classrooms to two rural schools in Limpopo, including Ditsepu Secondary School. This was done in partnership with the South African Army and the Bakenberg Traditional Council.

These classrooms are self-contained and fully equipped state of the art educational facilities, which provide learners in developing communities with access to a computer training environment. The units are linked to the internet, and are designed as integrated solutions.

Media who are unsure of the location of the Ditsepo Secondary School are advised to report at the Polokwane International Airport at 07h40, as a convoy will travel to the school from there. Please be advised that own transport is essential.
