Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs to visit Eastern Cape province

The Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Mr Richard Baloyi is visiting Eastern Cape Province as part of his commitment on taking the Portfolio to the people. The Minister has embarked on a drive of taking the Portfolio to the people as part of his annual commitment to engage directly with people and their local sphere of government.

The visits are based on thematic areas that are aligned to the priority areas of the Local Government Turnaround Strategy adopted by Cabinet during 2009.Those priorities are Enhancing Service Delivery, Ensuring Good Governance, Infrastructure Development, Sound Financial Management, and Fighting Corruption. Eastern Cape Province is assigned a theme on Good Governance.

During his visit the Minister will concentrate on the area of Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality (NMBM) to assess progress being made on matters of governance as well as engaging communities within the area. The Minister will be accompanied by the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs of Eastern Cape Province throughout his visit. The visit is as follows:

The meeting with communities is scheduled to start on 14h00 at Walmer High School, ward 4 and continue to Uitenhage on 15h30 at BABS Nadlakane Community Hall as well as Motherwell on 17h00 at NU30 Community Hall. Meetings with communities are open for media.
