The Minister of Communications, the Hon. Radhakrishna L Padayachie (Roy) to launch 'Operation Warmer Winter' blanket campaign

The Minister of Communications, Radhakrishna L Padayachie (Roy) will launch the department’s "Operation warmer winter" blanket campaign on Thursday, 23 June 2011, at the Ekuphum'leni Frail Aged Care Centre in Gugulethu, in the Western Cape.

The Minister will hand over 300 blankets to the centre, an Old Age Home, which looks after 134 elderly people, some who are wheelchair bound and others who can only walk with the aid of a walking stick. Of these, 96 are frail (eight partially blind; three totally blind; 15 diabetics and 58 wheelchair bound).

This initiative is in partnership with Good Hope FM and the South African Post Office. It follows Minister Padayachie’s 2011 Budget Vote Speech in Parliament on 31 May 2011, under the theme: Taking technology to the people in service of the people, where the Minister called on players in the Information and Communications technology (ICT) sector to donate blankets to the poor and destitute.
