Minister in The Presidency for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, Collins Chabane will, on behalf of President Jacob Zuma, deliver a keynote address at the President's Award for Youth Empowerment Presidential Fundraising Dinner. The event seeks to encourage corporate South Africa to answer President Zuma's call for support of the organisation's valuable work for youth development.
The President's Award for Youth Empowerment was founded in South Africa in 1983 under the banner of the Gold Shield Award. In 1994, the organisation was re-launched as The President's Award for Youth Empowerment with Mr Nelson Mandela as its Patron-in-Chief and on the 14 August 2010, the baton of Patron-in-Chief was handed over to President Jacob Zuma, the President of the Republic of South Africa.
Since its inception almost 30 years ago, the President's Award Programme has helped more than 110 000 young people in South Africa on the path towards reaching their full potential. In the last 8 years Award Programme's participants have also collectively undertaken over 405,000 hours of community service to date, estimated to be valued at R8,100,480 worth.
