Minister brings her department closer to the people

After building departmental capacity at national level, Minister for Women, Children and People with Disabilities, Ms Lulu Xingwana will next week kick-start a series of provincial visits to build institutional arrangements that will enable her department to directly impact in improving the status of women, children and people with disabilities on the ground.

Minister Xingwana’s first provincial visit will be to Eastern Cape on Monday, 19 September where she will meet Premier Noxolo Kiviet, Buffalo City Mayor Zukiswa Ncitha and all provincial civil society organisations working on gender, disability and children’s rights.

The meeting will also source inputs from these stakeholders on key national programmes of the department including:

  • Gender Equality Bill (the draft legislation that will enforce 50/50 gender equality in public and private sector)
  • 365 Days National Action Plan to End Violence against Women and Children
  • National Disability Policy
