The Minister of Labour Mildred Oliphant cordially invites members of the media to a briefing to officially announce the new funding agreements with the Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services Sector Education Authority (MerSeta) and the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) valued at R129 million.
The funding agreements between the respective stakeholders follow the successful completion of courses that Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) beneficiaries undertook under the Training of the Unemployed Scheme, which was launched in 2009.
The Training of the Unemployed Scheme was launched at the height of the economic recession which saw multitudes of South Africans losing their jobs.
The aim of the scheme was to improve the skills levels of UIF beneficiaries. The UIF beneficiaries were drawn from the UIF’s database.
During the event 176 students who received training in the following artisan fields, boiler making, electrical, fitters, fitters and turners amongst other will be graduating.
It is anticipated that the above skills will assist those who qualified to be re-absorbed into the labour market.
