Minister Blade Nzimande to host the National Artisan Development Conference

Minister for Higher Education and Training, Dr Blade Nzimande, will host the first National Artisan Conference from 4 to 5 July at the Eskom Academy of Learning in Midrand.

Under the theme, “7 Steps” to Becoming a Qualified Artisan!, the purpose of the conference is to establish a formal, national platform, led by Minister Nzimande, to review the state of artisan development in South Africa on an annual basis, while also allowing for a discussion and consultative process to improve the National Programme for Artisan Development.

Out of the conference, Dr Nzimande expects to get the process of improving the status and profile of an artisan as an inspirational career pathway for particularly the youth developed and agreed to by stakeholders.

“The conference will further offer all stakeholders the opportunity to re-introduce and re-emphasise the basic steps of becoming an artisan and how these steps can be effectively and efficiently implemented. This is quite critical within an environment with so much government investment in infrastructure development,” the Minister said.

Members of the media are invited.

Date: 4th to 5th July 2012
Time: 8h00 – 16h00
Venue: Eskom Academy of Learning, Midrand

The conference will be preceded by an official dinner hosted by Minister Nzimande on the evening of Tuesday, 3rd July 2012, that will also serve as the official opening of the Conference. Members of the media are welcome to the dinner as well.
