The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Dr Blade Nzimande invites members of the media to the National Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences Gala Dinner, which will take place this evening, 29th October 2019 at the Birchwood Hotel, OR Tambo Conference Centre, Ekurhuleni.
The gala dinner is scheduled to celebrate NIHSS PhD graduates and to honour more than 60 new doctoral graduates, the third cohort of graduates at NIHSS. 71% of the graduates to be honoured this evening are African and 50% are women, thereby advancing diversity and gender equality in the higher education landscape.
A significant number of graduates will be from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), followed by the University of South Africa (UNISA) and the University of Pretoria (UP).
It is also pleasing to note that the rising number of graduates are from the University of Fort Hare (UFH), the University of Venda (Univen) and the University of Limpopo (UL).
In this address Minister Nzimande will highlight NIHSS’s role in the post school education and training institution, particularly its role in universities and TVET colleges.
